One whole month of Gorey Educate Together Secondary School!
Friday, October 1st marked Gorey Educate Together Secondary school's one-month anniversary, in what has been a very exciting time for all the staff, students and parents. There has been so much achieved in such a short space of time, new friendships have formed, new subjects have been studied, new sports and clubs joined and so many great memories made.
We had our first school trip, a visit to “The Stables”, where the students and teachers got put through their paces, both physically and mentally, to learn all about resilience, teamwork and hard work.
The Extra Curricular activities including Book club, Lón Gaeilge, Soccer, GAA, Art and Crafts, Science Club, Circuit Training, Music and Performance, Cake decorating, have been a huge hit, with our wide range of clubs and sports having a great uptake from students.
Within the month, our students have also demonstrated their kindness and community spirit on a number of occasions, including the volunteers who chose to pick up litter from the town park in Gorey after school. During Ethical Education, the students decided that they wanted to give something back to their community. Wanting to tie in their activity with their Climate Action short course, a number of ideas came to light, and they picked the town park as their first project because they are grateful to be able to use the wonderful facilities there at lunch time.
Finally, GETSS celebrated our very first 'Students of the Month', awards with Leah Doyle from Ash and Olek Duchnowski from Birch receiving the inaugural prizes. Both students should be very proud, having been recognised by their teachers for their consistent hard work and fantastic attitude throughout the month.
With so much achieved throughout our first month, the excitement continues to grow as we see where our school journey will take us over the months and years ahead.
